ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Jazcatz is a quartet of jazz musicians from the rural, arts-rich "Quiet Corner" of northeastern Connecticut. The group emphasizes jazz standards, but experiments with jazz interpretations of tunes from the soft rock, folk, spiritual, pop, and Broadway songbooks. Joe DiVeglia, (vocals and piano) makes his home just over the Connecticut border, in Oxford, Massachusetts. Joe is a UMass graduate and studied for three semesters at Berklee as a percussionist following four years in the U.S. Navy.
He is a diehard Mel Torme, Chet Baker, and John Pizzarelli fan,and his vocals have a hint of those influences. Roger Glidden (bass) is an impassioned improviser whose rock-solid bass lines are the heartbeat of the Jazcatz sound. Roger, a UConn alum who also studied at North Texas State, is a Brooklyn, CT resident, and is the producer and engineer of this debut Jazcatz CD, recorded at his studio, Joyful Noise Recordings. Phil Palonen, guitarist, hails from Canterbury, CT, and is a versatile, talented improviser in jazz, blues, and rock idioms. A graduate of the Berklee College of Music, Phil is a familiar and valued figure on the Connecticut gigging scene. Since this recording was made, Wayne Gasiorek, drums, has joined the group. Wayne is a master percussionist with an energetic yet supportive approach to jazz drumming. He is a Berklee grad, and resides in Pomfret, Connecticut.
