ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Hello,

here's a few words about my album:

From Paris, France, "The Belle Epoque Ensemble" presents LUCETTINA, a 12 original titles album.
The band is all acoustic with banjo, violon, piano and bass
with a few guests on accordion, guitar, cello and uke.
Lucettina is an instrumental album with rag tunes, waltzs, a couple of ballads and swings;it shows that the banjo can play its own music, far from bluegrass.
HAVONA SHORES the band's new cd is also aviable at cdbaby.com

here's a few words about the author:

I'm Jean-marc Andres, a french born banjo player.
After playing with french singer Hugues Aufray and then touring the US for several seasons with the french band "Transatlantic Bluegrass", I moved to Woodstock(NY) to play the banjo for John Herald and the guitar, mandoline and banjo for a local trio named "Acoustic News".
After a few years I moved south to Florida to work the local scene in a duo, again playing acoustic adaptations of popular songs on guitar, banjo and mandoline.
Moving further south, to the Carrabeans, I played local music with a local band for about 3 years before moving back to France.
Then, I released my first solo album "ZARANA" a ragtime duo with piano and banjo.
LUCETTINA was realeased in august 2005.

John Green - Red Hot Jazz/Dance Bands on CD

A brilliant musician and composer.
This album gives unique quality sound exhibiting the talents of a true master. Every track is a gem - Petite Valse Salinee is beautiful while Lonney Fingers leave you breathless.

Marc Smith

A pure delight. Banjo without barriers.
While Jean-Marc's "Zarana" was a wealth of familiar "Classic Banjo" tunes, "Lucettina" is another direction entirely. Here we have original works for banjo and fiddle, bass, cello, guitar, mandolin...even accordion. Not bluegrass here, mostly jazz...and delightful jazz it is too. I hear bits of Fats Waller, Django and Grappelli, Zez Confrey, et al, in this stuff. The playing is uniformly excellent. Jean-Marc has the touch to pull off a beautifully lyrical waltz (Petite Valse Satinee, Kingston Waltz) as well as the chops to have fun with a handful of blues-shuffle bits (The Ace of Spade Shuffle). The first track, "Concertoto pour Banjojo" is gypsy-jazz and would be right at home on any "Hot Club de France" album. The title track is banjo & accordion as only a French banjoist could make work; it is the Seine at dusk, a beautiful girl under one arm and a magnum of champaign under the other...

You know how some music just jumps out and grabs you? This is it. Jean-Marc, I am an instant fan!

Bonjour,
Cordialement,

Bruno BILLOTTE
