The song, "Wait Until Dark" was written by Jeff Martini in 2008 while living in Brooklyn, New York. It was inspired by a knockout style heartbreak. The basic musical ideas for the song were written in one day after a late night. Jeff recorded the demo over a tape loop of a drum beat he created in 3/4 time. The song was refined and worked on with producer and engineer Mike New over several periods. They recorded basics: Mike on Drums and Jeff on rhythm guitar live over several iterations. They finally decided to use the classic analog style of recording by letting the drummer's sense of time dictate rather than a "click" track. The vibe of the more raw and imperfect "performance" capturing style proved stronger to them than one with digital edits. It took longer to get THE take, to work from, but both felt it was indeed the sound and feel that they had been hoping for.
Jeff would later record with Alex Lipsen at the famous Headgear studios in Brooklyn the horn parts he had written with a full horn section. He would also continue to work on overdubs until it's final release in 2010. Including more horn parts recorded at the Churchill School and Center after hours. A school that he and another teacher, David Sheinkopf (the subjects)taught at, part-time, working with children with learning disabilities.
The song, "Wait Until Dark" is one of Jeff Martini & the One Two Soul Revue's standout performance songs. With Scott Firestone playing trumpet, Jeff on Vocals and Tenor Saxophone, Avy Mallik on guitar and Alexandra Wood on drums. They play in the Nation's Capitol where Jeff now lives with his Wife and Son.
