The song "FREE" is more than a simple concept. In the midst of being a slave to all of the political ads and promises, witnessing the absence of human rights and torn communities being broadcasted all over the TV. I could not help but write about what I was thinking. I feel as if there is such a hype about the "Free World" and America being this great place of abundance and at the same time - here in America there isn't much at all that is "FREE". I feel like communities of people are being separated and brought to violence because of what they believe amongst many other things. As American's we should not have to justify unless unlawful. Whether it is religious, sexual, political, moral or anything else - these are rights of choice that we all have as humans. There is too much focus these days on "Who Is Right and Who Is Wrong". I wrote this song with the idea of filling a void that has been created in us all by the inability to love and live freely.
I recently saw a news broadcast of the theater shooting in Denver which weighed heavy on my heart. I don't see how any person who can live in this "Free World" would be so stone cold to end innocent lives of all ages. This world is becoming a scary place to live in and I don't know if it’s just because I am more aware of some situations that I didn't see as a younger person or maybe I did not notice or think of tragedies in a realistic point of view. I am seeing these terrible things that seem to happen every day here in America and of course all around the world. I pictured in my mind as I was writing "FREE" - a nation where all of us no matter what differences we may have can just love each other and ourselves. I believe that we cannot rely on some dream world that we have all heard about and been promised - but to focus on what most sane people can control which is our own actions and how we treat others. All of us for the most part can be responsible for disagreeing with someone about something but should also practice respecting that right that we have and that they have to differ from us. I mean this is the “Land Of The Free” correct? This is not all about America, but a hope that all of us as a human race can hold true to ourselves and do the same for others - no matter where we are.
We should be able to trust one another and truly feel as though we are "Free" to do the "Right Thing" and have an agreement on what the "Right Thing" is to live in peace, harmony and happiness without fighting - whether it's within ourselves or within others on what it means to celebrate freedom for all.
