This little song has a big story to it. Originally written for my father as a Christmas present, I wanted to give him a song that embodied these "5 rules" my siblings and myself had been taught our whole life. "Be Kind, Be Honest, Do Good to Others, Do a Good Job Every Day and Love Your Life," are the 5 rules that we were told would assure a good life.
After I had given him the Christmas present, I found an opportunity within my High School Chamber Chorus to actually compose one of my songs in a choral arrangement. My teacher then kindly allowed me to write out the song, rehearse the chorus, and perform it at our end-of-the-year concert. The feedback was so great that some of the chorus members requested that a trio of us sing it at "Class Day", which is the day before graduation in which all student performances are done.
We performed at Class Day, and the response was overwhelming. Later that night, several members of our graduating class requested to our Principal that we perform a second time, except this time during our graduation ceremony. Again, the response was overwhelming and this little song really did a big job.
