Jessica Kent is a pop and country singer/songwriter from East London, South Africa. She has spent most of the last year writing and preparing with vocal coach Robyn Coldham to record some of her original songs. In December 2012, her debut EP 'Right at the Top' was recorded at Shaw Music Studios by producer Jon Shaw. One of the songs from the EP, 'Little White Lie' will be included on The Chrysalis Project, a compilation of songs recorded and produced at Shaw Music Studios.
From a young age, Jessica has always been passionate about music – starting piano and vocal lessons when she was 13. In high school she continued studying classical piano and music theory which provided the foundation needed to crossover to guitar. In order to teach herself to play, she practiced Taylor Swift songs on an old electric guitar her brother had bought.
Since 2007, she has been writing and recording her own music and has worked with local producers in East London. She has also recorded various cover songs in Perth, Australia and spent six months studying Music Performance at the Central Institute of Technology in 2010. But the recordings she is most proud of are the songs off Right at the Top: “I spent months trying to choose the right songs, practicing my vocals and trying to get the recordings to be exactly how I imagined them. I was involved in the creative process as much as I could have been and I’m excited to hear what everyone thinks of them.”
