ABOUT THE ALBUM

The holiday season is filled with a special kind of magic: trees glisten with freshly fallen snow, families are reunited for the traditions of gift-giving and mealtime stories, and age-old carols imbue the air. But how often do we have the chance to steep our thoughts in solitude?

THROUGH SAND AND SNOW brings the listener on a nighttime journey through the aura of mystery and awe that Christmas so quietly inspires in our hearts. A vast nature surrounds us in these colder months, longing to be explored... Sometimes, it is only after we have that our own homes feel even warmer.

ABOUT JILLIAN

Jillian Aversa is an award-winning, classically-trained vocalist and songwriter whose shimmering voice has appeared in a medley of musical projects – from video games and film to hit dance singles and her own critically-acclaimed original albums. Her passionate, emotional vocals and lyrics can be heard in such blockbuster video game franchises as GOD OF WAR (Sony), HALO (Microsoft), SOULCALIBUR (Bandai Namco) and CIVILIZATION (Firaxis).

From the age of six, Jillian was recording and performing in her family’s home studio. Her first “hit single” – a cheery song about saving the rainforest – was played at the Omni IMAX theater at the Boston Museum of Science. Her love of music was sparked, and she soon committed her life to the art. During high school, she performed in numerous stage productions and a capella groups, developing herself first as a vocalist and performer. In 2008, Jillian graduated with honors from the Peabody Conservatory of Music, winning the George Castelle Memorial Award in voice.

After being given the opportunity to sing on CIVILIZATION IV: BEYOND THE SWORD, Jillian decided to pursue a career performing on video game, film and TV soundtracks as well as writing original music. Her first two original albums, Origins and the holiday EP Through Sand and Snow, have been broadcast on over 70 radio stations around the world and received such awards as #1 New Age Album of 2008 and the $5,000 Grand Prize at Ourstage.com.

Today, Jillian enjoys collaboration with many artists such as Hiroki Kikuta (SECRET OF MANA), Will Roget, II (STAR WARS: THE OLD REPUBLIC) and her husband Andrew (SOULCALIBUR V), with whom she has co-written several popular dance singles. She hopes to contribute to the emotional experience of as many unique projects as possible, while further exploring the evolution of her own original music. With endless imagination and a passionate voice, Jillian Aversa is steadily becoming a critical and popular favorite – and redefining what we think of New Age & World music along the way.

Put together beautifully
I actually don't really care for carols, yet this was really enjoyable. The album overall was put together beautifully: from the build up with the Prelude and I Wonder as I Wander (my personal favorite), through the climax with Walking in the Air, and to the conclusion with the end of Silent Night. Despite it being only six tracks, the way it's put together feels very complete due to the progression of the songs. I think you'll find the way Jill sings here--particularly in I Wonder as I Wander and Walking in the Air--will leave you humming these songs to yourself for weeks to come.

Magical!
Jillian Goldin has done it again. This wintry EP makes a beautiful followup to "Origins" with its chilling sounds and lush vocal arrangements. It's really too good to call a "Christmas album"... these songs stand on their own!

Christmas wonder!
I've always enjoyed the Christmas songs in the minor mode, and thought that there aren't enough of them. Thankfully, Jill lends her wonderful sense of rhythm (not to mention her lovely voice!) to these carols with splendid effect. Few Christmas albums have a sense of purpose -- this transcends the usual Christmas summary, and walks a deliberate path. A lovely album that will be in my car until well after the season ends.
