I started this project quite awhile ago. It has been one of those things that has been put on the back burner several times. But there comes a time when we realize that we “ain’t gettin’ any younger”. I had a good idea of some of the songs that would go on this album from the start. “Pretty Paper” and “Old Toy Trains” were right at the top of the list. “Run, Run Rudolph” was right up there as well. As I was looking for material I found some that I had not hard before. “The Greatest Christmas Gift” was an old George Jones Tammy Wynette song. The first time I heard “Little Lord Jesus” I was blown away. It was written by Dorsey Burnette. If you are in my age group you will remember “Tall Oak Tree” and “Hey Little One”. He wrote those too. Skip Ewing had some success with “Christmas Carol” and he also wrote “Mrs. Santa Claus”. That one was for my wife. I have been a professional Santa for the past 17 years. That is me in the picture on the back of the cover. Really helps all the download customers doesn’t it. Sorry. “I Want a Hippopotamus For Christmas” got the stamp of approval from my grand kids. They are the names at the end of the song. It was fun to personalize this album a bit. I can sing my boys to sleep with “Old Toy Trains” long after I’m gone. When we put the track list together it became evident that there was something for everyone that enjoyed not only country music but some bluegrass, some old 60’s rock and roll and traditional as well. The times being what they are we did our best to make sure that when you spent your hard earned dollar you got your moneys worth. I hope some of these become your Christmas favorites too.
