José Troncoso has been composing and arranging songs for classical guitar for decades. In fact, some of the first songs that he and his son, John Troncoso, performed together were traditional Christmas songs that José arranged for two guitars when John was between six and nine years of age. Although the father and son duo have played these songs numerous times over the years and in various venues, they were never recorded – until now, that is.
Both guitarists have studied the guitar with virtuoso guitarist Christopher Parkening, through Montana State University.
On this album, you’ll find two classical guitars, known for their soft, mellow tone. But José’s arrangements are such that you don’t need to be a classical music fan to enjoy them. You’ll find a hint of a jazz chord or two in a few of the pieces, and you might also notice flavoring from his Latino background as well.
This album was recorded with the goal of having the music sound as if it were being performed live, and without some of the sterility resulting from common, modern day recording studio practices. In an attempt to accomplish that, both left and right channels were performed and recorded simultaneously, without absolute isolation, and without any usage of a click track or quantization after the fact. The result is unsurpassed clarity and brilliance of sound.
