John Oakes, once a drummer for various local and national acts including Chubby Checker, combines various musical styles to create a unique collection of original songs. John's lyrical style varies widely from the outright comical to solemn motifs.
John released two self-produced albums, Anything Off the Bottom Shelf and I'm an Acorn, I'm a Tree. The albums feature John on vocals, drums, acoustic guitar, piano and various other instruments with help from talented friends who perform with various tri-state area bands.
Two of the songs from his albums, "Mr. Tofu" and "Better" have been featured on 105.5 WDHA's Home Grown Spotlight.
The band has appeared in the NYC area at such venues as VH1 Battle of the Band at Ramapo College, The Elbow Room in NYC, Liberty Bar in Hoboken, Possible Side Effects Improv Comedy Troupe, Montclair State University and the Bergen County SummerFest 2001. John also performed an unplugged concert in Erfurt, Germany.

The members of The John Oakes Band just keep coming out with new, dance-friendly music in a style all their own. With a follow up of their debut CD, The John Oakes Band's newest CD, I'm An Acorn, I'm A Tree, introduces a contagious, "anything goes" style of funk rock. This CD features lyrical tracks including "City Girl, "Chupacabra," and "Auf Wiedersehen" as well as two live tracks. I'm An Acorn, I'm A Tree also features dance step instructions for the band's signature song, "Do The Oakman!", which was written by bandleader, John Oakes. The John Oakes Band is led by the seasoned and multitalented John Oakes as well as members Rich Adams, Bob Albert, Eric Seiz, Edison Trujillo, Michael Robbins, Mike Alfano, Jason Loughlin, and Shannon McCandless. Every track on the CD is a refreshing eclectic twist of foot-tapping, hand-clapping, honest-to-goodness music.
