hometown planet

by Brian Joens

A conceptual slice of small town Americana, these 13 tracks are an intelligent blend of lo-key, alt-country grooves, reminiscent of "Harvest"-era Neil Young and the ethereal roots of early Cowboy Junkies.

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
A conceptual slice of small town Americana, these 13 tracks are an intelligent blend of lo-key alt-country grooves, reminiscent of "Harvest"-era Neil Young and the ethereal roots of early Cowboy Junkies. Joens' tales of sticky summer roads, soft yellow light behind screen doors, main street cafe gossip and even the flag girl on the road construction crew highlight this 1999 release.

Produced by Bernie Larsen, it features a stellar band of Kevin McCormick on bass, Fritz Lewak on drums (both working with Jackson Browne) and pedal steel master Greg Leisz. Paul Du Gre (Dave Alvin, Los Lobos) mixed the tracks.
