ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
For over fifty years, Joe Penland has been singing mountain ballads and telling stories from the front porch of his farm house tucked away deep in the coves of Madison County, North Carolina. He learned the "Old Love Songs" in the oral tradition, singing "knee to knee" with the masters; people like Lee, Berzilla, Doug and Cas Wallin, Dellie Norton, Byard Ray and Obray Ramsey.
This recording is comprised of songs Joe has written of his life and the stories of this magical place located in the oldest mountain range and along one of the oldest rivers on earth.
