ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Singer Songwriter Joe Reilly brings message of environmental stewardship to "Children of the Earth" in new CD

Latest album offers environmental songs for kids of all ages

Joe Reilly is a singer, songwriter and environmental educator at the Leslie Science and Nature Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan. His way of working with children is empowering, inspiring, and educational. Offering an interactive musical program called Children of the Earth, Joe helps people of all ages deepen their relationships with themselves, each other, and with their natural environment. Appropriate for preschool through middle school, Joe brings smiles to audiences while teaching ecology and environmental stewardship with creative lyrics and catchy melodies.

After more than two years of writing songs with and for children, Joe is ready to release a full-length album of environmental songs for kids of all ages. Titled Children of the Earth, the album includes a chorus of kids’ voices singing with Joe and his guitar on several of the twenty-three fun and educational tunes. The songs teach environmental science and ecological stewardship while entertaining kids and adults alike. Children’s voices offer brief interludes between songs as they candidly speak about what is important to them in nature and as they teach us how we can better protect our natural environment. The album offers hope for young and future generations in a time when the stability of our earth’s ecosystems and our place in them can feel uncertain.

children of the earth has a permanent place in the CD player of our car. We sing the songs with the kids on the way to school. I love the diversity of the musical styles and the constant inspiration to love the earth and the reminder that we are all related. For 6 months, we had to have the Robot Song on repeat. Over and over and over. And Henry still giggled each time when Joe starts to bleep. What a joy this CD has been and will continue to be for our family.

My daughter learned of Joe reilly from green Adventures camp; The Huron River is her favorite song along with all the other children at the camp. A great CD. We first heard Joe at the Hollerfest and so enjoyed his music that we bought a CD for ourselves and one for the music teacher at school. Very fun and great lessons for all of us!

Artfully woven
Joe invites children into his music. It is music that celebrates the natural world and draws participants in to be a part of it. The children precipitate, evaporate, and condensate through the water cycle; they become a tiny seed that transforms into a life-giving tree. Some of Joe's tunes are artfully woven together with the children's words and ideas. As they move and sing, they learn. Joe's playfulness and humble empathy for all life soon has the children singing about their part in caring for the intricate web of life that connects us all. Joe has a genuine way of communicating with children that holds their attention in the moment but also stays with them to be spontaneously uttered later: ‘We are all related.'

Teaching Ecology and Stewardship
Reilly has used his songwriting skills as a method for teaching ecology and natural science...His CD includes 23 original songs with environmental themes that teach stewardship of the Huron River, the importance of planting and caring for trees and animals (including mosquitoes), and of the interconnection between all living creatures. The CD includes interviews with kids as they share what’s important to them about the Earth and suggest simple things people can do to help support healthy ecosystems.
