Big band jazz!

Graham Roberts

Exotic and dramatic big band jazz.
This CD starts with a foot tapping, exotic sounding tune with the promise of exciting things to come. The big band performances here range from the exotic, including a nice folk tune, to the more abstract. Even the more avant garde sounding pieces hold the listener's attention with their intriguing sense of drama and interesting textures. Some of the music reminds me of some of the things George Russell has done - unusual tunes that nevertheless still swing. This music grows on the listener and offers up more rewards with repeated listening.
