Album Notes
"Exploring the Promises" is an addiction recovery lecture, by John MacDougall. John is the Director of Spiritual Guidance, and the most popular lecturer in the patient lecture series at Hazelden, the world famous addiction treatment center in Center City, Minnesota. John is a recovering alcoholic and addict, sober since 1989. He speaks at professional events and at A.A. events around the country and internationally. He has been with Hazelden since 1994.

In the lecture, "Exploring the Promises" John takes the audience for a tour of the "Promises of Recovery" found in the "Big Book" of Alcoholics Anonymous. These promises are widely quoted in A.A. circles. John explains each promise, reflects on how they come true by working a spiritual program of recovery, and what the results are likely to be as each promise comes true.

These are the "Promises of Recovery" from A.A.'s "Big Book", that are explored in the lecture:

***We are going to know a new freedom and a new happiness.
***We will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it.
***We will comprehend the word serenity and we will know peace.
***No matter now far down the scale we have gone, we will see how our experience can benefit others.
***That feeling of uselessness and self-pity will disappear.
***We will lost interest in selfish things and gain interest in our fellows.
***Self-seeking will slip away.
***Our whole attitude and outlook upon life will change.
***Fear of people and of economic insecurity will leave us.
***We will intuitively know how to handle situations which used to baffle us.
***We will suddenly realize that God is doing for us what we could not do for ourselves.

The lecture is filled with humor and hope, and is part of a series available from John MacDougall. This lecture time is 47:59.
