ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
JOINTPOP IS TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO’S GREATEST ALBUM ACT OF THE LAST 20 YEARS & THE MOST SOPHISTICATED INDIGENOUS ROCK n ROLL BAND TO EMERGE FROM THE CARIBBEAN.

" With their Tough n Ready Renegade sound, jointpop sounds like The Beatles having a smoke with Marley while being molested by The Clash "

Formed by lead singer song/writer Gary Hector in 1996 out of the debris of his old group Oddfellows Local- the seminal Caribbean rock band of the 90s- jointpop was an evolutionary leap in the musical experimentation of Hector’s sound. Formed with some of the most sensitive musicians of T&T’s underground circuit and marshaled by Hector’s brilliant piercing social commentary rock and roll songs the band quickly became the benchmark of brilliant local alternative music and music that had a ready international appeal without sacrificing any of its local relevance. Jointpop has walked that tight-rope of balancing foreign and local musical influences and local and international subject matter so effortlessly that one wonders what the fuss was all about…
The secret is the fact that Gary Hector is one of the greatest songwriters that the Caribbean has produced, and is one of its best kept secrets… Hopefully a secret that is about to be revealed... Apart from this Hector has always shown a very un-Trinidadian penchant for recording albums. The testament is a collection of albums which constitute the best produced discography of any Trinbagonian act of the last 20 years. This has been due to a commitment to faithfully capture the sound and feel of the dynamic live band in studio- without resorting to any tricks, bell and whistles… The result has been a very accurate record of a talented singer/songwriter and the band of gifted musicians and collaborators he’s shared his journey with. Of note in the latter cohort is lead guitarist Damon Homer who is Hector’s major collaborator and whose silky sensitive guitar playing is one of the constant revelations of jointpop’s sound.

INFLUENCES: jointpop: The name will suggest a wide range of influences (join pop music styles together). Some Clash style rants to Velvet-like laid back grooves with Dylanesque lyrics. Some Stones, Neil Young, Marley, The Mighty Sparrow, U2, Beatles, Pistols controversy = jointpop.
