ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Portland, OR band Jonah's latest release the Safe Distance EP: Returning to producer Steve Sundholm, this five song EP builds on and transcends the sonic expansiveness of 2001's full length, Save the Swimmer. From the impetuous guitar and keyboard bombardment of Tremor #7 to the plaintive piano driven live track, All that Remains, the band is finding a new voice.

The past year has been a blur of activity and accomplishment for Jonah. Two songs from Save the Swimmer were featured on the WB's Dawson's Creek, and one was voted in the top ten on that show's online compilation CD. Other songs from Swimmer were featured on numerous compilation albums including a CD Baby compilation and a song on the Falling from the Burnside Bridge compilation highlighting the best of Portland. The band recently signed a deal with the LA managment team of Alan Mintz and Chris Long, whose collective resume' includes work with Nirvana, Counting Crows, and Queens of the Stone Age, not to mention a long list of other major label acts. Having just returned from their first showcase for major labels in LA, Jonah is looking to the future with a smile, because the best is yet to come.

Totally Excellent!
This cd is even better than Save The Swimmer. All the songs are great with very interesting lyrics. The lead singer has a terrific voice and I especially liked tracks 2,3 & 4.

It's about time...
I've been waiting a long time for these guys to release this little gem that has been floating around to record execs only...a classic EP...the biggest problem I have with the CD is how much it leaves you wanting more.

Ben

These guys are the real deal.
Why can't more bands write such meaningful, passionate, and intellectual music? It is a mystery. What a great collection of songs!

CD Baby

Portland's beloved baby, Jonah, does it again- comes crashing in like a turquoise wave with another overwhelming, dynamic album of lush, encircling Brit pop and Emo. With wet guitar, lush texturing and layers upon layers of cushy backdrop, this is music you can fall back and sink into- just like the ideal beanbag chair. A listening experience like this will impress on your mind the sensations of a warm swim in tropical waters or sleepy days spent in a bed full of pillows with the rain dancing on glass. Do something nice for your weary soul and let "Safe Distance" quell your hopeless hunger. What can I say? I love it.

Brilliant EP - but where's the next full album?
This is simpy brilliant. They should have a huge record deal...
We really need more of this music, and I am eagerly awaiting the next full album!

Great
I bought this after listening to clips on the website and thought I'd like it. Wasn't disappointed. Their sound reminds me a bit of of U2. Very nice. My teenage daughter liked it too.

soli deo gloria
the english reformation of the 16th century lives on in the form of Jonah. the music is refreshing and a great reformed world view is encompassed. luther and calvin would be proud, and God smiles from upon high. it doesn't get any better than this. damn presbyterians did it again.

christopher

too short!
all of jonah's albums are too short, but especially this one w/ only 5 songs. the music is captivating and powerful. be forewarned, you will want to hear more!

Meticulously Crafted
Meticulously crafted, unabashedly emotionally intense, JONAH delivers a decidedly off-kilter originality in a sugar sweet package. Let these songs take you away. In a perfect world, these songs would be filling the airwaves.
