Jonathan was born in the small farming community of Harrow, in Southwestern Ontario. County life moved pretty slowly, and plenty of time was found for the study of the creative arts and the development of these skills. Having parents both with musical backgrounds lent to a home life that revolved around self-expression through music. His mother, and accomplished vocalist, produced an album with her own group while Jonathan was still small, and he spent countless hours observing how a group of musicians could come together to create music.
At the early age of 4, Jonathan began his own formal journey into the world of music. He was formally trained in classical piano by The Royal Conservatory of Music, and first picked up a guitar when he was 15. While he considers his instrument of choice to be acoustic guitar, he also spends time with the mandolin, violin, and upright bass guitar, and visits these instruments occasionally.
Jonathan has performed live in a number of arrangements as solo acoustic performer, and in duets, trios, and with full bands across Ontario.
Through 2007 and 2008, Jonathan began playing regularly with a small group of musicians, and the natural connection these people had led to the forming of The Jonathan Roung Band, playing a blend of popular cover tunes, as well as much of the original music that Jonathan has written.
After years of penning lyrics & composing music, Jonathan was encouraged by fellow musicians to take his work to studio. Spending the summer of 2008 in studio, and under the talented eye of producer Terry Lesperance, Jonathan completed his debut EP release, ‘Stranger on the Corner’. The response to this EP has been extremely favorable, and Jonathan is working hard to complete a full-length CD, set to release in 2009.
