From the liner notes of Future Past Present:
I released the album "Beautiful" in December of 2011 and then made a resolution to make more music. I wrote my first song of 2012 "Get On With It," on January 1st. By Mid-February I had a dozen new songs. Although they were personal, they also seemed to follow a story line, and so I started writing a script for a new musical. By mid-September I had 18 songs and a first draft. The new songs on this CD are a preview of this future production.
There are also acoustic versions of some past songs on here. I still enjoy the older, full-band recordings, but I wanted to try performing them another way. "Free Flow" in particular – the original version rocks so hard – by recording it solo I was testing myself to see if I could pull it off without the band. Once I realized I could drop the low E down a step I was golden.
As for the present, it is what it is. "Watching the Wheels" is a present for me, and "The Egg Song" is a present for every person who ever asked me to play it.
