ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Jorge Miguel is a Spanish Canadian Flamenco guitarist and composer. FLAMENCO is the name of his new CD. Passionate, aggressive and percussive music, dance and song will take you on a journey to the contemporary music scene in Spain. Performers include Eliana Cuevas on vocals, Paul Donat on double bass, percussionists Daniel Stone and Luis Orbegoso, and Flamenco Dancer Ilse Gudino.

Jorge Miguel's style of Flamenco is full contact, take no prisoners hard-core. This is the real thing. Jorge respects Flamenco's roots and rules, the hundreds of years of development and growth passed down through generations. He was trained in the traditional way as is done in Flamenco circles, "face to face and hand to hand" sitting across from his "profesor". This is the passion and pride of true Flamenco, percussive, aggressive and dissonant virtuosity are found in his Bulerias, Alegrias, Tangos, Farruca and Sevillanas (traditional Flamenco styles).

Jorge's family is from Cadiz, Andalucia the birthplace of Flamenco. He has lived and trained in Spain with maestros of the Flamenco guitar. His connection to the south of Spain is powerful and he returns often to the source for inspiration.

Jorge is a leading figure in the Canadian Flamenco scene. He has performed with a number of local companies as well as visiting companies from Spain. Jorge also performed of many of Canada's more prestigious stages including, The Du Maurier Theatre, Premier Dance Theatre, River Run Centre, The Glenn Gould Studio, The Orillia Opera House, Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts, The Living Arts Centre and Trinity St. Paul's.

Sheila O'Hearn - The Fergus-Elora Express, "his playing and improvising were nothing short of fantastic"

Jowi Taylor -CBC'c Global Village, "clearly someone to watch"

Brent Raynor - Now Magazine, "Jorge Miguel's playing steals the show"

Jorge Miguel's debut CD Agua Clara sold over two thousand copies and has been re-released with a dance re-mix by Kinder Atom.

Jorge new CD " Flamenco " has just been released in a limited edition three panel Digi-pack.

Jorge records a tune " Luna Llena" with Latin Jazz Singer Eliana Cuevas for her new CD, "Ventura".

Jorge Miguel's group is all acoustic and consists of Flamenco guitar, singer, double bass, percussion and Flamenco dance.

Jorge has been recognized for his work by the Toronto Arts Council Grants to Composers Awards, the FACTOR Independent Recording Program, the Ontario Arts Council Grants to Composers, and the Canada Council Grants for Specialized Music Sound Recording and Independent Study Program.

Passionate and fiery flamenco
I really like this c.d. I have been studying Flamenco dance since last year. While I love modern Flamenco music, it is difficult to dance to. I am happy to be able to "hear" a tango or buleria and count out the rhythm. This is the real thing.

watch out new jacks!
Do not by this album if you're an insecure guitar player........your every hope and dream will be completely shattered. Miguel is ruthless.

Excellent!
I picked this CD up at one of his concerts, and the sound on the CD is almost as alive as the concert itself. It's a great-sounding CD, and the music itself is a nice change from the modernization attempts by some other artists.

He puts on a great show. Definitely go and see him live if you get the chance!

Better late than never
I have been meaning to praise this album for over 2 years. I had Jorge come to my wedding and play several pieces along with a special request he learned just for us. He is an amazing musician, providing energy and creativity in a classic genre. I have my eyes open for another album and will buy as soon as I see it...Thanks for playing at my wedding in October 2005 !!!

The greatist Flamenco record some have heard yet!
If you listin to Flamenco be shure to check out Jorge Miguel! The dynamics in the songs are great. This guy is the real thing and if you have ever seen him live you should because it is a great show. The cd is something that is hard to get sick of because you can pop it in and have no trouble relaxing and enjoying the music. I highly recomend it. You rule man!

Hot & Smooth, you want to stop in traffic and dance
I like the sound of old style flamenco and got this on a fluke. Jorge has a great way to blending modern ideals with the magic of the classic guitar. Hot and Smooth, I wanted to jump out of my car in traffic and dance!
