Happy Christmas is José’s Christmas CD debut! From the beginning, he wanted to make this Christmas music a presentation of his own lifelong experiences with the holiday season. He starts it off with “Christmas In Paris”, a song he wrote with Michael Goldsmith while in Paris. He heard the great Nat “King “ Cole sing this song in a dream one night and thought it would be a great traditional beginning for the CD. “Sleigh Ride” is in a one-drop style reminiscent of Bob Marley’s style of Reggae riddim. “Winter Wonderland” reminds us of the way Hank Crawford would have played it with Ray Charles - groovy and bluesy. On “Arbolito de Navidad”, he takes us to South America using instruments such as the Paraguayan Harp, Charango and Bombo - giving it an Andean flavor and groove. “Christmas in Kilarney” takes us across the pond to Ireland, where he plays the flute over the Bodhran and acoustic guitars - leading us like the Pied Piper to dance the jig. Three-year-old London Eiland makes his voice-over debut on “Santa Claus is Coming to Town”, kicking off a “rocker” with a smoking electric guitar solo from John DellaSelva. The only vocal track on the CD features José on José Feliciano’s “Feliz Navidad”. Here he takes us to The Dominican Republic, where Merengue rhythm is King - giving the song a new country and life.
The final track on the disc is “Auld Lang Syne” - a New Years celebration! José takes us to a dance club on the Caribbean island of Trinidad, with the steel drums, bass and percussion possessed with a wicked groove!
This holiday CD is an international sleigh ride and groove party! See you later! I’ve got some dancing to do!
