Jose Salazar is a virtuoso guitarist who has been performing since he was nine years old. First classical piano, then classical guitar and he also plays jazz, blues, flamenco, nuevo flameno, gypsy-jazz and jazz fusion. He received a B.M. degree from UNM, where he studied with Hector Garcia. He also completed a Master Class in Spain with Maestro Emilio Pujol. Jose Salazar received A Solo Performance Grant from the NEA and has performed at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall annually twenty times. Jose Salazar was the Winner of the 2003 Living Music Foundation Award. He also has a classical CD out called Jose Salazar, Classical, Flamenco Guitarist and Composer. Guitarist/Composer John Pearse in London said of Jose Salazar, "Fantastic guitarist and musician." And Bert Weschler of the New York Daily News said, "Incredible fluidity to his music as he traversed it."
In addition to Jose Salazar's solo performances, he has added his group - duo and /or trio called Jose Salazar's Thunder Band, to his performances. His band plays everything that has been mentioned above, except classical.
When Jose Salazar was seventeen years old he was called "one of the best blues and rock guitarist in the SW area."
