Album Notes
Josh Spoon, a bass loving, melody toting, electronic music producer is the stage name of artist Josh Weatherspoon. Music has surrounded Josh since childhood. Josh’s father was in a gospel group and his grandparents sang as well in the choir.

Josh Spoon’s journey began with a Saxaphone, learning just how fun and expressive music can be. After dropping out of the high school band to perform in rock bands, Josh took up drums, learning quickly the ferocious playing style of the likes of Dave Grohl and the finesse of players like Jimmy Chamberlain.

After years of being in bands Josh wanted to create the music that was in his head, the music he remembered from growing up in Queens in the early days of hip hop and mix that with the rock, jazz and pop that he grew to love over the years. Josh quickly learned that could now be achieved on a laptop and started to study and learn this art.

Josh Spoon's style comes from his heroes; KRS-One, DOOM and Slick Rick. His style also comes from The Smashing Pumpkins, Foo Fighters, Marvin Gaye, Thelonious Monk, The Mars Volta, Beck and the Flaming Lips. Josh likes to mix his broad range of influences to make hard beats with soulful groove and melodies.

Josh spent 2011 writing short tracks every week that he posted on SoundCloud, and creating a hip hop musical journey through the movie Back to the Future called Beats to the Future. The album takes you through the the key scenes of the movie with the backdrop of classic hip hop feeling grooves and samples with a contemporary electronic feel. This album was inspired by the two things he loved as a Queens kid, Back to the Future and early hip hop sampling. This is a musical journey through both.

In 2012, Josh Spoon released his first single called Bath Salts as he begins working on his first EP, Manifest Destiny.
