Album Notes
Joshua Richman is a 22-year-old jazz and classical pianist who will be attending The Juilliard School in the fall of 2008, where he will begin his graduate studies. Majoring in jazz piano, Joshua recently completed his undergraduate degree at William Paterson University. Joshua has taken lessons for sixteen years, studying with Mulgrew Miller, James Weidman, Harold Mabern, Armen Donelian, Vincent Herring, Don Braden, Marcus McLaurine David Demsey, Rich Derosa, and Gary Kirkpatrick. Joshua has been fortunate to have performed with some of his professors, including Steve Laspina, Bill Goodwin, David Demsey, and Rich Derosa. Over the years, Joshua has accumulated many awards and honors, including the ASCAP Foundation Young Jazz Composer Award two years in a row. Joshua recently was the pianist for Anthony Rapp and Stephen Sondheim at the “Sondheim on Sondheim-In Words and Music” event at William Paterson University. He performs in Philadelphia, New Jersey, and New York City with various groups, including the Joshua Richman Trio, for which he leads, composes, and arranges. Although he performs mostly, he also teaches both jazz and classical piano. When “it’s all said and done,” Joshua would like to confidently say that he became the best musician and person that he could be.

Some people just play the piano, but Joshua expresses so beautifully the love inside his soul on the piano. I have had the good fortune of seeing he and his band perform live and both myself and the entire room were quite moved, especially during his title track ballad, Acceptance. I wondered if that energy would be conveyed through the CD and it was. This is the mark of a true musician; someone who can move my soul with his. Buy this CD and let it play in the background all day long and notice yourself feeling lighter, happier, and more peaceful.
