Album Notes
Jimmi Roger Pedersen (1965), Danish double bass player and composer, born and raised in Copenhagen.

After a short time at Rhythmic Music Conservatory JRP begins to work as a professional musician: First in an intense period of engagements in the Copenhagen jazz and club scene, then as a house bass player at ”Dennis Swing Club” in Hamburg as well as club, studio and festival gigs in Europe plus solo playing in the street.

Been touring a lot both as a accompanist and a member of different groups in Sweden, Germany, France, Portugal, England, Italy, USA, Canada and recorded radio and television broadcasts plus music documentary film. As an example has the duo with pianist Horace Parlan been working for more than 15 years.

Today living in the country near Copenhagen with a secondary address in Berlin. JRP has found own label and released 2 solo bass CD's ”Bass Only” (2004) and "Bass Beyond" (2007) - both consisting all original music.

The Press wrote about the CD "Bass Only": "The exciting and virtuous Danish double bass player..." and "Pedersen has - besides a brilliant tone - a lovely lyrical ear and an eminent melodic general view" and "Bass Beyond": "Absolute virtuoso, swell and very special. That´s how the music sounds on this original CD, where everything is composed for double bass...".

Besides concert activity the Danish bass tradition is carried on by master classes. JRP also made own publishing and released 4 booklets in the series ”Scandinavian Double Bass Technique”. This school of bass explains and develops a technique that highly bears the impress of the deceased NHØP.

Reviewers describe JRP's playing as: ”Remarkable, empathic, exquisite sound, international class, distinguished feeling for theme and solo playing, great concentration, very energetic appearance, physical presence, stable bass lines formed a no slip foundation, outstanding, a gifted virtuoso, a reel soloist, a star”.

Excellent Bass-Only CD
Using only the bass (hence the title, “Bass Only”), Jimmi Roger Pedersen has created quite an artistic soundtrack. Few would know how much could be done with just one instrument, and Jimmi shows listeners that his bass skills deliver endless possibilities. “New Room” stands out, particularly for its clever use of harmony overdubs and its ever-changing, slow-to-fast-paced structure. “Fem Flade” is another extremely memorable track. It nicely layers lead melodies over repetitive space-filling bass backdrops. From start to end, Jimmi proves beyond any doubt that he has a firm mastery of this amazing instrument.
