ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"Prolific, multi-faceted songwriter that floors his audiences with subtle, startling, and often stark phrasing, alternately mixing straightforward honesty with abstract imagery and complex interpretations. An enigmatic performer who's songwriting prowess and unique stage presence cannot be missed."

Part poet, part folk singer, part indie-rocker, and part mad-scientist, j. schnitt is a fearless, inventive, and "one of the most uniquely creative" singer/songwriters in the independent music world today. His music is a combination of dust-bowl folk, indie-rock, and poetry, with occasional forays into the experimental realm. He is often compared to artists such as Wilco, Bright Eyes, and Sufjan Stevens as well as folk singers like Dan Bern and Richard Buckner, with the occasional mention of Radiohead usually not too far behind. But most often he is compared to Bob Dylan, not only for his songwriting and lyrical depth, but also for his willingness to fearlessly follow his muse wherever it may lead him.

A talented multi-instrumentalist, j. schnitt has independently released 9 solo albums, the latest bieng the 18-track lo-fi folk album "Make a Joyful Noise" which was released in 2010 recieving rave reviews. His latest album is scheduled to be released at the end of December 2011. The records are entirely performed, written, and produced by j. schnitt. He has also released 4 records with the seminal central NY alt-country band The Rueben James, as well as one record with pyschadelic garage band The Real Burnouts.

He has shared the stage with such artists as Martin Sexton, Jackie Greene, Ryan Montbleu Band, Howie Day, Diane Cluck, and Ember Swift, and has performed on such prestigous stages as the Stanley Theater, the Westcott Theater, Finius Events Barn at Hamilton College, the Nelson Odeon, the Electric Co.,the Utica Music and Arts Fest, Kirkland Arts Center, and Munson Williams Museum of Art. He has toured extensively throughout the NorthEast U.S., as well as Ireland and Eastern Europe, making fans wherever he goes.

J. schnitt is also currently at work with his band The Archipelagos, featuring former members of The Rueben James and Modus. They are currently working on their first album as well as other projects. Some of his many and ever changing side projects include playing lead guitar with The Real Burnouts and piano and accordian with folk rock band The Neon Marias.
