From the liner notes:
Bob Fowler was my music teacher when I was ten years old, and later hired me, at 18, to be the vocalist for the Bob Fowler Orchestra, a rotating group of musicians who played dance gigs all over central California. The first night, Bob handed me a “cheat sheet” of lyrics to some of the standard songs that were expected, and I’d literally learn the songs onstage, sometimes with Bob calling the lyrics to me between lines. Those songs have stayed with me all these years.
In my secret musical world, the “music I listen to that folks don’t expect to learn I listen to” my playlist of songs I sing along with is laden with old time blues, hard wailing Tom Waits, raspy, soul searching Leonard Cohen...the eclectic side of my musical life. My Secret Chord. And so in tribute to those great writers, and to Bob Fowler, here are some of those songs, and a few of mine you’ve never heard. Here’s to you, Bob Fowler...I’m sure proud to have worked with you and to know you. JUNI
