ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Warning: Junkyphunk (pronounced "junkie funk") is largely different than other bands. It is hard rock that is not afraid to push the envelope of the genre, blending industrial and electronic philosophies into the mix.

Yes, there is a different vibe that flows through this band's music...Sometimes it is poppy, sometimes it is aggressive, sometimes it is sexy and sometimes it is downright depressing, but it is ALL entertaining. Plus, the music contains award winning lyrics that are from the soul of an artist. No hype, totally independent and just a bit of attitude to make it interesting...welcome to the world of the junkyphunk sound...come in, get hooked and become a "junky" yourself...

Junkyphunk is the project of veteran musician, Phil Lee (a.k.a. "Philly"), who started playing guitar when he was 10 years old and became a multi-instrumentalist by his mid-20's. His profound love for the art of music has recently manifested itself within the muse of Junkyphunk. All of the instrumentation and vocalization on this album is channeled through him. Though largely electronically based, Junkyphunk has the style and feel of a live band.

Phil records all the music for Junkyphunk in his home studio in Austin, TX, where his own life and experience has become the basis for his musical inspiration.

All I can say is "Right on!"
A friend of mine introduced me to this CD he just got for Christmas, and I was hooked from the beginning. It seemed like there was a message to be told from the opening quote, and the further into the cd I realized what the message was: Deny complacency! This cd tends to have an "80's" feel to it, but with the cool modern effects and anger trip going on, I totally forgot how I hated the 80's and its music. This is one talented band, and I think if they get their due, alot of other people will think so too. If I hadn't already made a copy of this cd, I would have bought one, but I am doing the next best thing and encouraging other people to buy it so I don't feel so guilty about taking anything away from this band. Some of the best songs are not even sampled on this site or anywhere on the web for that matter, and I just think it needs to be heard. I know people will love it like I do, especially if they are tired of the same-old same-old going on with alot of bands on the radio, and if they love heavy beats and guitars and stuff like that. It is hard rock and synthpop for sure, but it is just damn good music in the end. Definitely worth the time to take a listen to. That is all that needs to be said.

DIY industrial metal, very unique
Fuzz- and feedback-washed industrial-metal-gothpop fusion. Good guitar and/or synth hooks, especially in "Fake" and "Sum of the Difference". "21st Century AD" is especially catchy and well-crafted. Some of the most memorable moments aren't previewed here at CD Baby, like a classic funk line. Overall, IMO the disc suffers from vague lyrics and untrained vocals, but perhaps that's exactly the sound you want. Hey, the guy apparently records his stuff on his home computer, how much more underground can you get? Occasionally inspired; I wasn't sorry I gave it a chance.
