ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
steel guitar was born in hawaii and unlike the traditional guitar it is tuned to a chord...often to a 6th or sometimes to an 11th chord. it is nonetheless played as a melody instrument, with some stylists making use of harmonies due ti the chord based tuning. the strings are raised from the fretboard and it is played with a steel bar, and hence the name. the bar permits the player to slide from note to note and the bar occasionally needs to be slanted across the strings to achieve the correct harmony intervals.

enthusiasts wish it to be re-discovered and this CD album hopefully adds in some way to prospects of a renaissance. the time may be right...the musical world constantly seeks newer (or forgotten) sounds and ideas...it was almost exactly a century ago that steel guitar was invented and became the hottest sound in popular music and then faded after the world wars. ...it has since, like all things bright and beautiful, waited....
