Chuck Conrad of KZQX radio states, "YOUR, "Don't Mess With Texas" is the GOLD STANDARD as far as I am concerned."
Kelli's career began with a self-title double CD release thru Warner Bros. German affiliate, Eagle Records. Half country originals and half pop classics, “jazz” standards, the CD topped the European charts at #4 in Belgium and #7 in Holland.
With much praise coming out of Austin, The Texas Department of Transportation issued a special license for the use of their logo, a first for TxDot. for her CD, "Don't Mess With Texas."
Once again showcasing Kelli's award winning songwriting talents, 7 of the 12 cut country and a little Western Swing songlist are Kelli's own. The title cut, "Don't Mess With Texas", is a colorful and descriptive compliment to the sights and sounds of TEXAS. Talking about sounds, and to add just a little more authenticity to the recording, we enlisted the talents of a few former Texas Playboys. Band members that actually recorded and traveled the country with the man himself, Texas Swing legend and innovator, the King of Western Swing, Mr. Bob Wills.
A percentage of the proceeds will be donated to the Texas Department of Transportation in support of the states litter campaign and the Texas Music Project.
Former Texas Playboys on the title cut are:
* Johnny Patterson- Lead Guitar, Texas Playboy '62-'63
* Casey Dickens - Drums, Texas Playboy '59-'63
* Albert Talley - Steel Guitar, Texas Playboy '64-'66
* "Little Red" Hayes - Fiddle, Hank Thompson & the

The lead singles or, push songs from the CD are; “PRETEND” and “IF YOU WERE THE ONE.” Kelli has been recognized more than once for her songwriting talents. “If You Were the One,” is a riveting and passionate original that Kelli's raw, and somewhat erotic vocals arouse the deepest emotions of ones heart and soul. "Stand Up for the U.S.A.“ was written several years before the obscene act of September 11th, 2001, as a gift for her father who had served in the Navy aboard the USS Core. Kelli felt it was only natural to include it on the CD, considering Setptember 11th, to be one of the “bluest” days in America’s history, It is respectfully placed at #11 to honor the victims and families of September 11, 2001 …we will always remember.
