Kincaid represents the solo efforts of Australian musician, Stu Kincaid.
Stu is a multi-instrumentalist with a passion for funk, groove and any music that ignites the soul.
"Kincaid is back. The talented multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter , ex Funken Wagnells front man from Melbourne is set to release his debut solo album, And Another Thing…on March 1st. Launch gigs by Kincaid the 9pce band shall follow shortly thereafter.
Kincaid’s debut solo album marks a new direction in the career of the multi-talented drummer, keyboardist, singer-songwriter. He is the former frontman for the 12-piece funk band Funken Wagnells, and has just put the final touches to the album. Funken Wagnells enjoyed immense critical and popular success, touring nationally and internationally for 11 years. And Another Thing… represents a departure to pursue a solo career which has seen him recently perform a series of international residencies in 2009 and write and record this debut solo album.
The album showcases his unique style which layers richly textured harmonies onto a driving drum-and-bass foundation. The album is punctuated throughout with a stunning array of influences– from Sly Stone through to Miles Davis, Curtis Mayfield and even U2!
The topics and themes of the lyric are a real strength of the album, oscillating between protest at the corporatisation of society, post-modern self-honesty regarding the human condition and the placing of some trust in the audience’s ability to recognise when the tongue is firmly wedged in-cheek.
Whilst his musical grounding is in funk and groove – his experience of studying piano with jazz veteran Ron Rosenburg has seen jazz and soul influences evolve in his music. And Another Thing… is a rich tapestry of diverse tunes.
“As musicians we’re like funnels. The music we love is poured in at the top and comes out as an amalgam, glued with our own tastes and sensibilities…and as such the album is both an evolution and reflection of my influences over the years.”
