Album Notes
Minnesota Saxophonist Jeff King's first solo jazz CD "As the Sun" is now available. The CD features Jeff King on Saxophones and a superb cast of musicians including: Mark Asche-Piano, Steve Faison-Drums, Gordon Johnson-Bass, Francisco “Pancho” Lopez-Drums and Michael O’Brien-Bass.

"As the Sun" features classic jazz standards with modern arrangements. The CD defiantly pays tribute to the past and is very organic in nature, recorded “live in the studio” over two sessions. The title track, “As the Sun” is an original composition.

In addition to my jazz music, I play for Minnesota Music Academy award winning "Kurt Jorgensen Band". I can be found most weekends playing various saxophones at KJB's "full-band" gigs, and is the featured saxophonist on the last two releases, "Dance" and “Live Volume II.”

Past Jazz Projects include:

Consisting of members Michael O'brien bass, Mark O'day on drums, Chris Micek on guitar and Jeff on Tenor and Alto sax, this band played an interesting variety of music, including Jazz standard and reworked versions of many classic tunes. There was a funk/fusion element, as well as some amusing "twists" on old favorites.

Formed in 1994, this group featured a fantastic lineup of some of the areas finest musicians including Chris Lomheim {piano}, Jim Chenoweth {bass}, Phil Holm {trumpet}, and Pat Hulme {drums}. The group has performed at the "Dakota Bar and Grill", (Twin Cities premier jazz venue), and other local engagements. Playing creative original compositions as well as bop and traditional standards, this group has been received extremely well by audiences, and has been featured on two "Cookin at the Dakota" radio programs on KEBM {88.5 FM}. During this time Jeff and pianist Chris Lomheim's were also featured duet performers at the Dakota and other local venues.

The TCJS featured Jeff's "West Coast Jazz Tribute" as their opening concert of the 1994 "J to Z"concert series. This was a well publicized, highly received event offering a historical look at the "cool" west coast jazz scene of the 1950's.

As a member of this group {1985-1995}, under the direction of John Zdechlik, Jeff performed with national recording artists including Nick Brignola, Bud Shank, Clark Terry, Bill Watrous, and Bobby Shew as well as numerous local concerts regional festivals, as well as a 1990 South American tour. The big band recorded and released two CD's, "Lullaby of the Leaves" and "Together Again" which Jeff can be heard as a featured soloist.

Jeff was a member of the jazz groups "Jordu" and "Bozo Allegro" and has performed with many other local artists including Ruth Makenzie, Tom Linker (Minnesota Dance Theater production of "Rumblings"), Raymond Berg, Judi Donaghy, Vicky Mountain, Gene Adams, Cornbread Harris, and the "Cedar ave. Big Band". Jeff is also a long-time member of "Metro Jam", one of the Twin Cities finest society show bands, as well as a part-time member of local party favorite “The Buzz.” Jeff also performs sub work with other Twin Cities bands including "The Good, the Bad and the Funky", "Soul Tight Committee" and "C.B.O".

Over the years Jeff has also done recording work with Katy Thomasberg, The Slim Hippos, Bobby E, Bozo Allegro and numerous radio jingles. Jeff is also the sax player for "Rumblings," one of the frequently returning productions of The Minnesota Dance Theater and was a member of "The Boogie Men."
