ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This is message music for the intellect and the soul. The 10 original songs are an extension of the “Race and Change” work I do creating programs where people can talk about race and ethnic relations across cultures in a 21st Century healing, hopeful way. They are reminders to be grateful, to persevere, to cherish those special to you, to embrace differences, and to express a higher sense of love. They range from the philosophical, poetic approach of “Mighty World” and “Is That All You See?” to the hand-clapping joy-inspired “Sing with the Spirit” and “Gratitude.” Some, like the R&B-flavored “This is a Prayer” and the slow gospel lead-in to “Have a Little Talk”, began as wallflower melodies in the corner of my mind just waiting to be asked to dance. Some, like the samba “We Are All Related” and the percussive world music sounds of “Don’t Put Your Dreams Away”, turned out to be surprising fun to play around with musically. A conversation overheard between producer Tim Jack and engineer Jay Drake about their decades-long friendship evolved into “You Are My Friend”, for all the people who hold a place in my heart. (I just had to do “Love Song”, since that message permeates my work, and “Everything Must Change” has long been a signature song to close out my “Race and Change” dialogues. Enjoy – and share!
