ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Announcing!!! “Oh!” the latest, newest CD collection of Rare, Vintage, Rollicking Musical Funtime Frolics from the 1910’s, 20’s and 30’s, as sung and performed by Janet Klein & Her Parlor Boys. Janet and the Boys are the best at what they do! They’re unearthing, revivifying, rejuvenating, Vaudevillinating, whoopifying and bringing to joyous life tunes so rare and surprising that they are off the map! Here are the sonorous, hauntingly frank and clever sounds of a lost America, an underappreciated time between the two world wars. This is music that kept people up all night in speakeasies, barrelhouses, dance halls and Vaudeville theatres by the millions. When this band dishes out these neglected melodies and lyrical gems you know you’ve been spoken to. This CD is a “where have you been all my life” musical lost and found treasure box.

Oh How Sweet! The band’s ruff and ready live approach to song recording comes across from the first to the last cut. In the first and title track song “Oh!” the band shows an affinity to the expressive unique quirky charm that Robert Cloud gave his arrangement of the same song in 1927. The songs: “When The World Is At Rest” and “Ida I Do” are just simply stunning. “Who-oo? You-oo! That’s Who”, “Oh!” and Blanche (sister of Cab) Calloway’s “Concentrating On You” benefit from the thrillingly buoyant horn trio of Corey Gemme, Dan Weinstein and Brad Kay. The naughty and suggestive “I’m Busy and You Can’t Come In” is notable for it’s breakdown of harmonized humming by the band.

Fix your lamps on hotcha sweetie & ukulele chanteuse Janet Klein and just some of the notable members of the Parlor Boys: Ian Whitcomb, author and British invader of pop music fame circa 1960’s, Tom Marion and Robert Armstrong, members of Robert Crumb’s Cheap Suit Serenaders and Brad Kay, former member of The Original Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo.

Oh My! This is the 5th CD from the enchanting Ms Klein and her highly acclaimed, girdle-bustin’ bunch of West Coast Jazz Archeologists whose previous CDs include:
1998 Come In To my Parlor 2002 Put A Flavor To Love
2000 Paradise Wobble 2004 Living In Sin

OH! Is a gorgeously- packaged little candy box of vintage Jazz-Age Delights-Obscure, Comical, Lovely and Spirited musical bon-bons from the Only Decades That Were Ever worth a Hill O’ Beans.

preserving the real stuff she is!
I bought this on impulse as a CD Baby recommendation, and it is exactly the kind of work I want to support: preserving funny, sweet, obscure, and delightful music from the 20s and 30s, and in this case, performed with moxie, flair, and a real love for the music. It's also a CD that renders road rage impossible, and I suspect it can even clear up inclement weather. I'll be getting the other ones by Ms. Klein in short order!

Oh! Oh yes!
Another delightful offering from Ms Klein and her boys, every bit as entertaining as her previous recordings.Real music, played with skill, style and panache. I loved it!

I've heard the originals from artists like the Dandridge Sisters so it's really neat to hear a new take on them. They all make you smile, especially Rebecca came back from Mecca where Janice sings with a charming tongue-in-cheek accent. The cd is worth it for that track alone. Quirky and fun, it doesn't get old...I find myself playing this CD a lot. Great job! (P.S. - nice art for an independent label)

OH
I bought this cd for my husband because he heard one of the songs on the radio. Now I am as crazy about it as he is. Janet has a beautiful voice and her backup band is wonderful. We intend to buy more of her cds. SHE IS GREAT....

Rebecca On My!
Love track 18 Rebecca Came Back from Mecca. So irreverent and fun fun fun in a very serious world. A real tonic for me to listen to!

Fantastic... Happy Happy Tunes
Love all of her CD's....This new one continues what is todays current artist that has revived the 20's 30's music. GREAT Voice, almost a combination of Mae West and popular singers in that era. Now Would love to make it to L.A. and see this outstanding group of musicians in person. Favorite song ? Well too many to list....

Continues to produce excellent CDs
A good follow up to "Scandals: Living in Sin". While some material is a re-work of the best presentation of some old standards, others such as "Little Coquette", "I'm Busy and You Can"t Come In", "When" and the title track "Oh" stand out and display Janet's own interpretation of the songs. The backing by Her Parlor Boys leaves nothing to be desired. An excellent present for those who appreciate the music of this period. I bought additional copies for a few friends.

you got to love if you love 30's music
This CD should get 7 stars. Heard the clips and instantly and ordered the CD. Brought the CD to work and played it on our groups break. Everyone loved it both the young and not so old members in our work area.
