First of all, the extraordinarily beautiful artwork on this CD cover is by the lovely and amazingly talented Germaine Austin Cahoon, who drew the picture after hearing “Do You Hear What I Hear” during one of our concerts. I have wanted to make a new CD ever since she drew it, just so I could put it on the cover! Want to see more? Search for "lupidog" on Deviantart.com.
We have mostly stayed with our Renaissance roots on this CD – we even researched the proper pronunciations for “Adam Lay Ybounden” in Middle English! But there are a few more contemporary carols – such as “Do You Hear What I Hear.” And “Milford” is a traditional American fuguing tune, performed by Brad Ketch, Dave Ballard, Pat Buonodono and Rebecca Ballard.
The Latin pieces are seasonal and beautiful. “O Beata Trinitas” is something we have been wanting to record for over 25 years! We are so excited that it is on this CD! "Verbum Caro Factum Est" is a nice antiphonal piece that is in six parts. "Balulalow" is a Scottish lullaby, sung by Courtney Strickland, Becky Strickland and Rebecca Ballard." We next go to Italy - “Dormi Dormi, O Bel Bambin” is an Italian Christmas carol that truly gives a flavor of a village in the Alps.
The Director's favorite song on the CD is "Wexford Carol." Sandwiched between two beautiful solos (Keith Duggan and Dave Ballard) are some of the most beautiful harmonies ever arranged. This very rich arrangement is by Richard Lakey.
We ended this CD with the traditional “Stille Nacht” – Silent Night in its native German.
All a cappella, of course!
“We don’t need no stinking instruments!”
