Album Notes
For seven years, Landon Knoblock and Jason Furman worked in the Miami music scene, performing at weddings, clubs, and corporate gigs. They never performed jazz or creative music together, only Top 40 and Pop music. On a whim, they decided to do a recording session, shortly before Landon moved to Brooklyn. With no musical agenda, and a few hours in the studio, Landon and Jason improvised songs just for fun. This recording is the result. A mix of melody and cacophony, double bass drum and brushes, prepared piano and toy piano, this album covers a broad spectrum of moods and textures. Although the music sounds composed at times, the performances were completely improvised with minor edits to establish individual tracks. Highly artistic and purely interactive, Landon Knoblock and Jason Furman create an organic performance that resists traditional stereotypes, drawing the listener into a new realm of creative music.

Landon Knoblock is a creative pianist, an ambitious composer, and an adventurous improviser. His trio performs progressive compositions and exciting improvisations. Hailed as “a superb pianist” by Ed Blanco of, Landon’s music is passionate and spontaneous. His trio has been described by Robert De Virtis of as “three musicians who concentrate on the most essential musical elements, intent and inspired in the creation of a modern music, carefully crafted and direct, and with impressive interplay.” Landon’s performances are characterized by the highest level of artistry.

Originally from South Florida, Landon is currently based in Brooklyn, New York. He has extensive experience as a performer, composer, educator, accompanist, and musical director. Landon has released two albums as a leader; the critically acclaimed debut Listening Between features his trio performing original compositions, and Uncarved Block is a piano and drum duo album of improvisations. He has also recorded for CAMjazz, the largest Italian jazz record label.

Landon’s trio has performed prolifically in the United States and Europe at some of the world’s premier jazz clubs. Some other notable performances include performing with Grammy Award winning Arturo Sandoval, backing jazz vocalist Kevin Mahogany, and opening for the virtuosic Italian pianist Antonello Salis. Recently, Landon had the opportunity to record with the acclaimed New York trumpet player Ron Horton.

Landon holds a B.M. in Jazz Performance and a M.M. with Honors in Jazz Pedagogy from the University of Miami. While in attendance there, he had the opportunity to perform with such renowned jazz artists as Kurt Elling, Claudia Acuna, and John Riley. He also received two Downbeat Awards for his involvement in musical groups at the University.

One of the best albums I've heard in years. What a great project from Landon and Jason. It's like the Keith Jarrett trio but without all the moaning and groaning...and gary's bass playing.
