RICHARD ESCOBAR TANDIRERUNG also known for his artist name, KoMoDo, was born and raised in Jakarta, Indonesia on August 9th 1989. His mother is from the Sarangani province of the Philippines and father from Ujung Pandang, Indonesia.
Influenced by hip hop at the age of 10 when he moved to the United States, he started out banging beats in the classroom with two pencils and a table. He continued his passion in music and beat production when he joined a marching band back in Pasadena, Texas, learning both the French Horn and the Trumpet. Inspired by the sounds of the marching band style of drums, he begin his era of beat production electronically using software samples. It wasn't until he moved to Montreal, Quebec that he started composing his own original songs. Inspired by top name Hip-Hop producers such as Timbaland, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Dr. Dre and Pharrel, he now produces and writes his own original songs. Versatile in many different styles, you can hear from his work a mix of hip-hop, jazz, reggae and pop with a touch of techno in his productions.
Being raised by his father who is a pastor and a mother who is a devoted Christian, he became a born again Christian going out of his teen years and has inspired him to try a new style of Hip-Hop Gospel, spreading the word of God to his audience. He aims to write songs where people can not only enjoy the melodies and notes but can also relate strongly to his lyrics.
Now at the age of 23, he continues to learn new styles of music, experiment and produce more songs and perform live in front of crowds with his always strong stage presence. He chose the name â€œKomodoâ€ from the Komodo dragon, found only in Indonesia. Just like â€œKomodoâ€, the Komodo Dragon is known for their RARITY, a STRONG and TOUGH presence, and POWERFUL strike of its mouth. He's ready to take on the world and spread his music to the people!
