Album Notes
Kori's saga of her musical quest to share her soul stemmed from her childhood. Ever since Kori can remember, music has always painted imagery in her mind. She was always listening to something on the record player in her home in Minnesota and Texas. Her favorites were Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass Band as well as many of her classical favorites. " I remember when I was little, and sitting next to the record player putting my head down to the speakers to hear everything going on", says Kori. " I was amazed at the varied instrumentation that brought the songs I loved so much together". Kori also had a tape player with headphones " I would fall asleep listening to John William's "Star Wars Soundtrack".

She heard the Beatles on the radio and began to plunk out tunes on the piano and as she figured out the songs without any musical knowlege, she knew that she wanted to play the piano right then. She took piano lessons, listened to many varied artists and at age 14 began to compose music.

Her parents did not know what to do with her talents. At 16, Kori found a small recording studio in Texas and recorded two songs. " I loved doing that so much, I just knew this was something I had and wanted to do!" says Kori regarding her experience.

At 18, Kori moved to Idaho to go to college and was classically trained. Eventually she had to return back to Texas. She worked and continued to compose her music. She ended up moving to San Diego, California. Kori met her husband and they married in 1991. She gave up her dreams of becoming a performer in order to raise a family, but took piano lessons through the Associated Board Of The Royal Schools of Music. "My teacher, Mrs. Jensen told me I was concert pianist material and told me that I could achieve my dream!" With that knowledge she continued to work on her technique and theory skills.

In 2003, Kori was encouraged by her husband to continue to compose and actually release her music through the internet. "I remember when my husband took me to see Yanni, he asked me if I was interested in returning to my music. I laughed and asked him if this was a trick question! He told me that I should get a keyboard. I told him that if I do get a keyboard it was NOT going to be a little tiny keyboard, I was going for the full-sized Korg." Kori's old musical flame re-surfaced and she released her first album in 2004,"The Road Less Traveled."

In 2005, she released her second recording "The Journey". A blend of synthesized and organic instrumentation. Bill Binkleman of Wind and Wire comments: "On her second album, pianist/keyboardist Kori Linae Carothers paints on a more dramatic canvas than on her debut CD, layering synths (mostly strings, chorals and washes) underneath her passionate piano melodies."

Kori hears music in her head all the time. She composes her music when she feels like expressing herself. "Many people ask me all the time if I plan and write out my compositions" says Kori. "But I don't do that. Technically, I am not great at notation. When I feel like I need to say something musically, I sit down and work out a melody and record everything I do."

Kori is working on her third album, "Trillium", slated for release later on in 2008. "I plan on releasing each song digitally, so that the fans of my music will get excited about the whole project, once I do that, I will release the recording as a physical CD. I really like doing my own thing. I don't like to listen to people telling me HOW I should sound like so and so. I just compose what I want my music to be like and thats what is inside of me dying to get out!

Charming New Age
I really loved this CD. From the freshness of 'airs' and 'the road less traveled' to the charming soundscapes of 'a father's dram', from the melancholic sweetness of 'reflections' to very modern sounded 'altered mind', from the delicate piano play in 'mountains' to the amazing progressive electronica of 'mystique', this music has some wordly, timeless flavor I can't just love since the first listen. My preferred ones are: 'mystique', 'reflections', 'altered mind' and 'mountains'. Absolutely gorgeous, this is my opinion. (Augusto & The Wimshurst's Machine).

Kori's CD is Magnificent!
I am hard to impress, but this CD is one of the best I've heard in 5 years. All of the tracks are written by Kori, and they display her talent beautifully! "The Day, The Road Less Traveled, A Father's Wish, and Judgement" are mandatory additions to ANYone's collection! If you like any faction of New Age or Easy Listening, this CD is for you!

Incredibly moving and beautiful
I thought that nothing could make me cry anymore, but Kori Linae's music has proven me wrong. Thank-you Kori for such incredibly moving and beautiful music.

Even if New Age isn't your favorite, try Kori's CD!
Kori is so talented. Her songs sound every bit as great and varied as John Williams music. She's interested in so many musical genres, and her tracks show that. Can't wait to see you at the Grammy's sometime really soon, Miss Kori!

Welcome Back

Kori Linae Carothers young life was steeped in music. The period during which she grew up and influenced her most, the seventies, was a decade in which music spawned some of the most successful rocks bands ever cut into discs of vinyl. Herb Alpert, Genesis, The Doors and John Denver sparked a tiny flame in Kori that grew into a musical fire. She took up the piano and in the ensuing years wrote a lot of music. But life changes and sometimes dreams are shelved for other callings, other roads. Her new husband, with an eye to her happiness, took her to a Yanni concert and once again an ember was fanned into heat, light and energy. Kori began writing music again and the result is her album The Road Less Traveled.

Kori’s music, consisting of ambient and New Age tunes is composed and played on a Korg Triton 88. The music is cheerful, yet pensive. Bright, yet seductive. It contains all the essentials that make listening to these genres pleasing to the ear and the spirit.

The ambient tune reflections is ethereal and a sad, but that does not take away from its beauty. It is the musical images of two lovers matched in heaven and united on earth.

A rather odd tune called altered mind is a bit out of place for the album, but then again, maybe it is not. This one is a little scary. There are a lot of electronics, background tintamarre and foreboding sonics in this one that signify changes. Something more than a mere metamorphosis. More like life altering changes.

the day - There is something majestic about this track. Showing off her Yanni influences, it sounds as if there is a promenade down a sunlit pathway that leads into a magical place. There are secrets to uncover and avenues to explore in this peaceful tune of piano and strings.

My favorite cut on the album is called mystique. The throaty bass lead and calliope like score reminds me of an adventure in Merry England. There may be danger lurking around the corner as you head down dark alleyways and over the fog shrouded bridges. The sound has that European zest to it that may make it into a discothèque or on late night FM. I usually hit the repeat button when this one came on.

The poetry of the beloved American poet Robert Frost inspired Kori to write the tune, road less traveled, representing the penultimate “what if” question that continues to plague women and men’s souls throughout the ages. What if I never took up the piano? What if I hadn’t moved to another state? Where would I be if so many people didn’t love me? We can ask ourselves these questions and perhaps ponder the answers with this sparkling tune that plays like a colorful memory, vivid and thought provoking.

The final cut judgement is a flowing tune of electronic energies that sound like the background music in a movie. It the scene the hero embarks on a journey to save the day, but the hero has doubts. It may be a judgment of the conditions or the judgment of his intestinal fortitude. We all have doubts and we all make judgments.

Although Carothers has additional influences like Vangelis and Tangerine Dream, her music has its own unique therapeutic affect.
Kori’s music has a presence, a brilliance that makes the notes crisper than mere background fare. The sound is like adjusting a telescope until you can see clearer and life finally has more focus. Carnegie Hall isn’t that far away, Kori Linae.
