“Classic & Minimalism meets Electronic”
This could possibly be one short description for the new album release of Viennese pianist, keyboarder and composer Gerald Krampl.
With INNOCENT WASTELAND he has this time radically turned away from commercial concessions like radio playability, easy accessibility, clear song structures etc., in favor of a more free, elemental musical understanding.
The music stays aside the electronic tunes on a minimalistic base of piano and a maximum of two more synthetic string sounds (viola or violin + cello), extended with various sound effects, which add to the whole the character of a sound track. Intention was, that it should be easy to perform this music live with a small trio ensemble, a plan for the near future.
The overall theme of this very somber and reflective album, which could be seen as a concept album, is in general devoted to the cycle of destruction in all forms (of nature, the planet, society, wars etc.) and the afterwards always following reawakening.
