"Magnetic Soul" is a pure and raw expression of emotion, ultimately unapologetic and straight from the soul.
Finding ways to convey certain emotions thru different guitar tones is always a fun and interesting journey in of itself.
While writing these songs slide guitar and distortion seemed to rattle me the most. It made perfect sense for what I was communicating, so I kept going back to it and surrendered.
The lyrics may come across as dark and haunting but in hindsight are cautionary tales with an element of hope upon their arrival. To shine some light onto the darkness with courage and compassion.
"To send light into the darkness of men's hearts - such is the duty of the artist." ~R. Schumann
I have way too many influences to name but I have always loved the Billie Holidays and those types of chanteuse, Gospel,
Blind Willie Johnson and all the Delta Blues men who would play slide in such a way that would send shivers down your spine, stuff like that. Of course Doo-Wop, the 'ol country Cash, beatnik Dylan folk, Jeff Buckley, Mr. Cohen and psychedelic rock from the 60's and 70's and shoegaze. I just love music! To create these songs and watch them come to life has been an incredible process as well as working with some amazingly talented players. Love, light and gratitude.
