ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"Pensive and deceptively simple, Goldings’ compositions that make up this CD are brief, succinct, and largely without long improvised solos. Each evokes a mood set by a variety of understated means, such as a slow, lilting ragtime-like piano melody, a gently rhythmic loop reminiscent of a train going over a crossing.....Thinkin’ feller’s jazz, this is, beautifully realized by Goldings solo on some tracks and accompanied by his longtime trio including Peter Bernstein and drummer Bill Stewart on others. Chad Fischer did a great job of recording and producing; the sound is fantastic."
- Ernie Rideout, Keyboard Magazine

Under his own name, Goldings has made ten critically-acclaimed albums, many of them featuring his well-known organ trio with Peter Bernstein on guitar and Bill Stewart on drums. Goldings' most recent project, "Trio Beyond" (ECM), earned him, John Scofield, and Jack DeJohnette a Grammy nomination for Best Jazz Instrumental Album (2007).

Larry Goldings' musical compositions have been recorded by such artists as Michael Brecker, Jim Hall, Jack DeJohnette, John Scofield, Toots Thielemans, Curtis Stigers, Till Brönner, and Sia. beautiful, intimate, personal music from a master
I'm a huge fan of Larry Goldings, and this album, Long Story Short, is yet another reason. Featuring mostly solo piano performances, it's a very personal, intimate sketchbook. Taking elements of jazz, classical, folk, pop, and sound collage, referencing Joni Mitchell, Federico Mompou, James Taylor, Herbie Hancock, and Björk, among other influences, the music is emotionally evocative and full of humanity. I love this album!
