Since 1992 Lenoir Sax has performed jazz and classical chamber music for diverse audiences throughout North Carolina and beyond. The group is heard on public radio stations including WETS, WNCW, and WDAV in the US and in Scotland through NPR cultural exchange programming.
Lenoir Sax has performed throughout Austria and represented the United States at the KaiserFest in Bad Ischl, recorded with Paul Weber and the Lenoir-Rhyne A Cappella Choir on "Evangelical Lutheran Worship, Hymns Audio CD, volume 2 (Augsburg)", and have been featured soloists with the Western Piedmont Symphony (featuring the music of television/film and Hollywood Saxophone Quartet arranger/composer Warren Barker), were selected to perform at the 2013 International Saxophone Symposium at George Mason University, Fairfax, VA., opened for the Tommy Dorsey Band and the North Carolina Symphony; and have performed with the Loonis McGlohon Trio and the Asheville Symphony.
Dedicated to new music, Lenoir Sax has commissioned and premiered works by NC composers J. Mark Scearce, James Gossler, Joseph Dorsch, and Frank Graham Stewart. The group's newest CD project, "High Standards", pays homage to the Hollywood Sax Quartet with new arrangements of jazz standards by David Wilken, an amazing young composer/arranger based in Asheville, NC. Other Lenoir Sax recordings include "Wade in the Water", "Christmas... Classically Cool", "Fascinatin' Rhythms", and the limited release EP "Nightcap".
