Carnival season gets off to a swingin' start this year with an exciting new release of the timeless Professor Longhair classic "Go To The Mardi Gras" by the "new" Leroy Jones Quintet.
As long-time fans know (and who in New Orleans isn't a fan of his?), no one can breathe more life into our treasured New Orleans standards than Leroy Jones -- and his brilliant solo will have you shaking your head in wonder (along with your butt!) as he interprets "Go To The Mardi Gras" in a whole new way, cementing his position at the top of the heap of New Orleans trumpeters.
With able support from his trombone partner Katja Toivola, New Orleans' favorites Gerald French on drums and Mitch Player on bass, the band swings out the same way they do live. But the big surprise is new piano player Meghan Swartz whose solo will have you second-lining on the first listen. She's the new secret ingredient whose energy is raising the Quintet to a whole new level.
And that's good news indeed for fans of traditional New Orleans jazz who already know that when it comes to the classic New Orleans music we love, there ain't no finer band around than the Leroy Jones Quintet. But if you need proof, you'll find it right here in this new track -- just in time for Mardi Gras! -- P.F.
