Mardi Gras in Mobile is bigger than Christmas, the Senior Bowl, and all the other special occasions put together. In my youth I looked forward to this time of year, the parades, floats, and especially the music of Mobile's legendary Excelsior Band. My older brother (Johnnie Alphones Lewis) was one of the stellar trumpet players with the band. Through him in later years I became a member.
Having lived in Mobile all of my life, and played with the Excelsior Band for over thirty years, I've experienced every facet of Mardi Gras possible. It has been the culmination of these experiences that led me to write the title track to this CD. Many songs have been written about Mardi Gras, but this is the only one written (that I know of) that sums up the total Mardi Gras experience in Mobile. Thanks to Harolyn Bettis (vocalist) for giving expression to what I'd written... it couldn't have been delivered any better.
This CD is a must in your collection. Purchase copies for your next Mardi Gras celebration or party and gifts for your out of town guests.
