ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Lisa released her first album of music in 1991, a five song EP produced by Grammy Award Winner Jeff Redefer called "Best Friend's Baby." It was a two day project in the studios at Ohio University in Athens with Mark Hellenberg on Drums, Bernie Nau on piano, organ and accordion, Tom Martin on Bass and Jim Smailes on (killer) electric guitar. Check out song #19 "She'll Take Anything" and experience the raw energy of this pot-luck band of musicians who came together to play for two days. Not before or since have these musicians played together in this form.

In 1999, fourteen more songs were added to the project and "Music Box" was born.

In 2007, the Music Box was re-issued, so now you have twenty songs from singer-songwriter Lisa Biales spanning 1991 to 2006. She added "Sleepytime Lullaby" the last song on the album. It didn't make the cut on her "Chasing Away The Blues" album so she added the lullaby written for her children here when the album was re-issued.

The album starts out with an acoustic version of "Full Moon Full Of Love" and goes right into the version she played with her band of seven years, The Band DeVille. The band consists of Pete Cary on guitar, Gary Strauss (Captain) on drums, and Tom Zinser (Pleasant Mountain Boys) on bass. The haunting Peaceful Warrior/Indian Song with guitar, voice and cello (Tom Martin) has been called "a work of art." Country music with a twist features Sarah Goslee Reed (Prairie Orchid) playing dobro on "Yippee Ti Yi Yo" "Walking Stick" and "River Of Change." Lisa mixes it up with some solo acoustic tunes that show off her voice and she throws in some songs with alternate tunings on guitar (DADF#AD).

Here's what people are saying:

“Like a great Zen Master, Lisa absolutely zones into each and every musical moment . . . I was inspired.” Michael Kalter, Wildwater Band Guitarist

“The first thing audiences notice is that strong supple beautiful voice.” Jim Phillips, The Athens News

“ Lisa is an artist of depth and experience . . . a compelling songwriter.” Dirty Linen

Like a great Zen Master, Lisa zones into each musical moment
Hello Lisa,
You may remember me, Michael, the guitar player in the Wildwater Band. I am so glad that I stayed around in Oxford after our gig long enough to catch most of your music. I was so spellbound by your style. Like a great Zen master you absolutely zoned into each musical moment and effortlessly delivered your music with passion, realism, originality, and all done so fluidly! I was very inspired by you. I awoke this morning and grabbed my guitar and sang and played for a few hours and thinking about your delivery of song. Hoping that I could reach for more passion in translating the depth of the musical space. Your writing style is unique in my mind and reflects a depth of your own personal experience. I recognize a great musical talent. I was glad to be there. I played your cd's on my ride home last night. I am looking forward to your new one.
Peace,
Michael Kalter

I really enjoyed the down to earth sound of the blues..your solo is just as good as the tunes with the band. Best to you Lisa
