Lisa Haagen started out with some drumsticks and an appreciation for music. Upon entering her college years she brought a guitar with her and began to expand her instrumental horizons as a self taught musician. It was during this time of instrumental discovery that she fell in love with the art of lyricism. This is made evident by the strength of her repertoire: her lyrics. She has found a way to truly capture intangible emotions through the art of lyric, being able to write beyond the confines of her own life story.
She pushes the boundaries of her musical versatility in order to really embody the idea of an "independent artist": not only is she the sole- songwriter but she is the only instrumentalist behind her music as well, arranging all parts herself and recording them in a home-studio.
Drawing inspiration from artists such as Tristan Prettyman, Ingrid Michaelson, Sara Bareilles, Regina Spektor, & Fiona Apple, listeners often draw comparisons to other lyrics focused artists such as Ani Difranco. Lisa has found a nice little corner of female vocalist, instrumentalist, and silly-sarcastic female performer, while maintaining a serious side and vulnerability through her songs.
