Album Notes
Nearly 4 years since the death of their singer and bandleader Georg Bayer and 10 years after "Lonely are the brave" (Phoenix Records / SMIS) Germany's Southern Rock band no. 1 is back with their new longplayer "Big Road". Since quite a few month new songs appeared in the live set of LIZARD. The reaction from the audience was always the same: We want more! The selection of songs was wide - the band started songwriting in 2007, together with Georg Bayer. After his sudden death Bruce Brookshire, head of the Southern Rock Legend Doc Holliday, contributed some melodies and lyrics. But also the new frontman Ruben Killian did his parts together with Christoph Berner and Volker Dörfler. The twelve best songs made it on "Big Road", among them is the fulminant Allman-Brothers-Band-like Instrumentel "Walking" - a musical bow to Georg Bayer. In every line and in every beat you can hear an improvement of the sound - so detached and sound-wise distinctive was no LIZARD album before. Ruben Killian perfectly fits into the LIZARD-sound on "Big Road" which transports Slide-, Accoustic-, Dobro- and Twin-Electric guitars over a thick carpet of Hammond B3 and piano sounds, Fender basses and two drum kits in a very relaxing way - more than ever. LIZARD succeeded in making an even bigger step in their development without breaking with their over twenty years of musical history so that you belief that they will not only tie in with their old achievements, they will exceed them.
