Album Notes
"The warm plaintive voices of Sarah Hawker and Debra Clifford were simply destined to be entwined. Chad Crumm's production makes you feel like you are in the room with them. Their own compositions are indistinguishable in spirit and quality from the traditionals or Stanley Brothers songs here. Instrumental accompaniment by Clifford, Crumm, and Rose Sinclair (Heartbeats, Planet Zydeco) is all the more compelling for its restraint. "Omie Wise" features Hawker's voice unaccompanied and is the most chilling rendition I have heard. (BC) Dirty Linen Magazine

This first Lonesome Sister album features the traditional lonesome mountain sounds and harmonies of Sarah Hawker and Debra Clifford. With sparse instrumentation and strong, distinctive high harmonies, the Sisters let the songs speak for themselves. Rose Sinclair of The Hearbeats plays clawhammer banjo and Chad Crumm of The Hix plays fiddle. Songs include classics by The Stanley Brothers, Blind Willie Johnson, a cappella gospel, unaccompanied Appalachian ballads and original pieces.

fantastic CD-wonderful sound.
The Lonesome sisters are great-the best Old Time music I have heard in a long time. I bought all three of their CD's. I have passed the word to others, who have also bought all their CD's.

We enjoy this cd and also the nex c.d. Thanks lonesome sisters to make such music.

Susan Edmond

great stuff.
Top notch production and sound.

It's a beautiful CD. just very wonderful and clean.
The Lonesome Sisters are my new favorite band. I hope to catch their live show this simmer in Madison, Wisconsin.

Sally Anston

Wonderful harmonies and tight mountain singing, fiddle, banjo, guitar.
This is a beautiful CD of tight women vocal harmonies in the southern tradition. The guitar sound is lush and the clawhammer banjo and fiddle are sparse and add a great touch. The 2 original songs are my favorites.

Tom Able

Beautiful harmony, traditional old time
This CD has beautiful bluegrass harmony singing and early country acoustic sound.

Hugh Suter

Superb. Also heard Old Flames on the BBC and had to get the CD
Highlights such as Old Flames and Western Dream make this CD absolutely brilliant. In general I loved the guitar tunes and liked the unaccompanied or banjo-accompanied tunes less as I found them less melodic, but overall what a great CD

a five star record
The music is very basic. It reminds me of Gillian Welch, Iris Dement and the Carter family.
