Ranging in musical style from beautifully haunting and simple, to having flamenco, blues and gospel grooves, Lorraine and Tony—longtime friends and fellow musicians in bands throughout the years, finally collaborated on recording a Christmas album after talking about it for 15 long years! They also invited several of their musician friends to contribute their talents on the recordings as well.
They both felt they wanted to breathe some new life into the old, but still loved carols, rather than focusing on contemporary songs that are usually recorded. The oldest on the album date from the 14th century on up to the newest one from the Appalachians in the 1930's. As the recording process continued, some of the tunes spontaneously took shape in the studio while others were more carefully thought out and planned.
Tony Unger plays both nylon and steel stringed acoustic guitar with years of experience in the flamenco, classical and rock world. He's also working on a new solo album due out next year.
Lorraine Gervais has sung R&B, jazz, soul and blues for years, is in several bands and continues to produce a long running vintage concert series with the Center for the Arts in Grass Valley.
