The Scientist, The Romantic, And The Genius
Dwelling between the seemingly-contradictory worlds of strictly-disciplined Medicine, and the celestial, Elysian fields of musical craftsmanship, Dr.Rifai managed to demonstrate -with immense success- that science and passion can copulate, and the fruit of this, yet unheard of, mating, is this majestic oeuvre.
The music entourage have presented many talented artists, and of course, many of them was destined to eternal grandiosity and even immortality, but in my own opinion, this arena was greatly blessed by this young man.
Indeed, all of us have heard of Di Meola, Satriani, Pastorius, Malmsteen, and many other great guitar masters, but who among of those, managed to master, tame, and dominate the ever colliding realms of the cold, rational, and emotionless credo of scientific belief, while yet caressing, on the other hand, the soft, mellow, and passionate thrust of the music orbit?! I believe that Dr.Luay Rifai is a first !
The kind of growth and maturation that this album revealed surprised me at first, as most of it was conceived during this great artist's thrive towards the pursuit of his medical career, and for those who are familiar with this arduous journey - myself being one of them - I then realized that it's not surprising at all, for, it is the existentialist's suffering that sparks the flame of Genius, provided there is a fertile ground, and yes, by all means, this young man's soul is a haven of creative fertility.
Maybe this is why the whole motif of this oeuvre can be (although counter-intuitively) depicted by the incredible track (Prelude for Glenn Gould), for, Luay can never escape the abstract while secreting the romantic. hence, was the praise of Bach.
I can only congratulate this young doctor for this breeze of fresh air, and thank him for reminding us that - indeed - there is something else, a transcendental essence, that is (Vital) ...in all of us...
